07/28/2007: "SG-1 Fic: One must change if one is to grow (Teal'c/Cameron)"
Title: One must change if one is to grow
Pairing: Teal'c/Cameron
Words: About 500
Notes: I really don't know where this came from and I feel some shame.
"Don't you think this is strange? Come on, it can't be just me." Cameron asks as he signs the ownership documents.
The real estate agent smiles a bland, impersonal smile and hands him the next stack of papers.
"We are buying a house," Teal'c replies. "Is this not appropriate for a married couple in your culture?"
"Well yeah," Cameron says, shaking the pen. It seems to be running out of ink. "I guess. If you can afford it. Not everyone can."
"Indeed." Teal'c frowns. "Poverty remains a problem for many on your planet."
Frowning slightly in sympathy – it's the frown of a person who knows she should look sad at certain cues – the real estate agent hands Cameron another pen.
"Thanks," Cameron says, taking the pen and signing another form. "But that's another thing." He looks over a Teal'c. "We're married. Doesn't that seem just a little off to you?"
"We share affection."
"Yeah, I guess that's how some people might put it –"
"We share affection," Teal'c repeats. "I do not see the problem."
The paper work is apparently endless. "Really? What about the fact that I'm a General? And you raise dogs!" He shakes his head. "I don't understand how we got here!"
Teal'c sits back against his chair, looking smug. "They are fine animals. I am most pleased."
Of course he is. "Yeah, yeah."
The real estate agent looks momentarily interested. Teal'c inclines his head to her and says, "They are Irish Wolfhounds. A most noble breed."
She grins.
"Dogs," Cameron mutters.
"They are extremely well trained," Teal'c states, mildly.
"Didn't you used to train Jaffa warriors? Huh? And now it's hounds."
"One must change if one is to grow."
Cameron signs the last of the papers and hands the stack over to the agent. He shakes the cramp out of his hand. "This is just wrong. Aren't we supposed to be fighting the Ori right about now? Remember? The Ori?"
"I remember them well." Teal'c looks pointedly at the agent, who appears to be checking her calculations.
"Do you?"
Leaning towards Cameron, Teal'c says, "Ascended beings who require allegiance from their human followers. It would not be easy to forget. Why do you persist in questioning everything?"
"We're married! We're buying a house! This seems normal to you?"
Teal'c smiles at the agent. "I believe Colonel Mitchell is experiencing what is referred to as 'cold feet'. This is to be expected. I have been so assured by many of your people."
She smiles back carefully, warily. Cameron's sure she knows better than to get involved in these kinds of conversations.
"Hah!" Cameron says. "You called me Colonel! Not General. Something is wrong!"
If Cameron hadn't been watching closely, he wouldn't have seen the slightly shifty expression that crosses Teal'c's face. He narrows his eyes in response. "What is going on? And where the hell am I?" Gesturing at the agent he asks, "Is she in on it too?"
Teal'c smiles, slowly. His eyes are dark.
It gives Cameron the creeps.
