Note: This is story #5 of Unfortunate SGA Pairing Week - a week of pairings that lead to awkward conversations and situations. Many thanks to lyrstzha for speedy beta!

The only problem Evan had with being involved with a sentient, alien city (other than the weird – and sometimes jealous – looks he got for days after it all came out) was that Atlantis couldn't always tell the difference between 'I'm busy working' and 'I really want to have sex now'. After the third time Atlantis sent out little tendrils of arousal (straight to the brain, and straight to his cock) while he was in a meeting, he figured it was time for a chat.

Because sure, the first time he'd been sitting down, and he claimed he was squirming because the seat was uncomfortable. And the second time he'd had a clipboard handy (complete with ammo inventory lists for verisimilitude). But the third time, he wasn't in a meeting so much as he was being dressed down by Caldwell for having an inappropriate relationship (as though he'd ever really had a choice in the matter). There was just something wrong with getting your ass handed to you by a superior officer while getting obviously turned on.

"It's not you, sir," he'd managed to grate out. "Atlantis is –"

Caldwell held up one hand. "Major, I do not need to know."

Thankfully, Caldwell had dismissed him, and Evan had managed to make it to his room without passing too many people.

"Look," he said moments later, already taking off his pants, and secure in the knowledge that the door was locked so tightly that not even McKay would be able to get around it, "it's not that I don't appreciate the enthusiasm, but it's not always the best time."

He could feel Atlantis' disappointment and confusion mingling with the strange, metallic, power-through-circuitry feeling of the city's desire. The room filled up with a muted scent, one he'd come to associate with sex; the lights dimmed. Atlantis ramped up the level of desire and it all clicked together, leaving him panting, hand on his cock, Atlantis in his head.

He was getting the best sex he'd ever had in his life, and he knew he was deeply, deeply fucked.

Later, blissful and breathing hard, Lorne laid on a bed that he'd bet was softer than any other bed in the city. Atlantis was a contented hum in the back of his head, warm and constant. There was a sweetness in his mouth too, some kind of post-sex thing that always happened with Atlantis. The taste was natural and light, like something he half-remembered from when he was a kid.

He didn't know what Atlantis got out of this thing – or why the city had latched onto him in the first place. But he was beyond wondering why.

"Seriously," he said, stretching out, "it's fantastic having you around." And it really was; Atlantis always around him, watching out for him, working with him. "But sometimes it's just – getting read the riot act because of an inappropriate relationship isn't the best time to be getting turned on. Especially around a guy like Caldwell. That's all I'm saying." Absently, he petted the bed. "Can we save it for when I'm off duty?"

Around him, Atlantis almost seemed to sigh, wistful and resigned. He wondered if there was a corresponding power fluctuation – if he'd get grilled by McKay later about what exactly he'd been doing with Atlantis this time.

Yeah, off duty would be best. Sensible.

Then again, he didn't want to stifle the city's sense of inventiveness and spontaneity. It's not like Atlantis got out much. "Or at least not while I'm in a meeting?"

He imagined the feeling in his head as a smile, a little shy, a little teasing. Who did he think he was kidding? "At least, not in an important meeting."

The mental smile widened; Lorne grinned back in return.
